Research position openings at the University of Cyprus (pdf version)
Applications are invited for two research positions (Special Scientist) in the Xi-Computer Architecture Group (http://www2.cs.ucy.ac.cy/carch/xi/) of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Cyprus (UCY). The successful applicants will join the EU H2020 project UniServer (http://www.uniserver2020.eu/).
UniServer is a 3-year (Feb 1, 2016 - Jan 31, 2019) H2020 project that aims to deliver a prototype of an energy efficient data center node for Cloud and Fog/Edge Computing. The project is lead by Queens University Belfast and the consortium includes ARM, Applied Micro Circuits, IBM Ireland, Meritorius Audit, Sparsity, Worldsensing, University of Athens, University of Thessaly and University of Cyprus. UCY participates in all the Work Packages and will coordinate the efforts of the development of the Firmware services and handlers. The goal of UCY’s work in UniServer is to analyze and characterize the dynamic margins and reliability of cores and memories that are going to be placed in the proposed UniServer board, and, thereby, develop a prediction model for handling failures. Based on this extensive reliability investigation UCY will also derive with an end-to-end UniServer TCO analysis and time dependent performance degradation.
We are seeking two highly motivated researchers:
1. with a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering or
2. with MSc in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
Applicants should have extensive knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Computer Architecture, Memory Hierarchy, Near-Data Computing, Edge/Cloud Modeling, Performance Evaluation and
Benchmarking, Machine Learning, Low-Power and Reliability. Any additional research experience in these areas will be considered an advantage.
The posts are for the period until the end of the project. The salary will depend on qualifications but are expected to range between 2200-3400 euro/month for a PostDoc and 1600-2400 euro/month for a researcher with a Masters.
