He had been a Cambridge European Trust fellow, at the Signal Processing and Communications Laboratory, University of Cambridge, where he obtained his PhD in Information Engineering (2011). He has a BSc in Informatics and Telecommunications from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2005) and he is an honor graduate of Kings College London (2006), where he obtained his MSc degree in Mobile and Personal Communications (2006). Previously, he served as Senior PostDoc Researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya in Israel, the Shandong University in China, the University of Cyprus, and the Cyprus University of Technology. He has also taught as a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Nicosia. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), Eurographis, and the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber, where he served as a member of the Research Committee. Andreas is on the editorial board of The Visual Computer (TVC) journal, and he is guest editor of the Advances in Applied Clifford Algebras (AACA) journal. He has published over 35 papers in top-tier journals and international conferences, and participated as principal investigator in a number of EU funded projects, e.g., the ITN-DCH, Vi.Da.Pe., SCHEDAR, and SIM.POL.VR. He has been awarded with several grants and fellowships, including the ΔΙΔΑΚΤΩΡ fellowship, by the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation, the Erasmus Mundus Grant, the nVidia GPU grant, and the Office of Naval Research Global Visiting Scientist Program. PhaseSpace Inc., a leading company in motion capture technology, integrated his algorithms into their software, and awarded him with an eight cameras full-body optical motion capture system to established his own animation studio at the University of Cyprus. He is the leading author of the FABRIK algorithm that been integrated in all major game engines (e.g., Unity, Panda, and Unreal engines), and published in open-source libraries.
|His main research interests are focused on 3D motion analysis and classification, motion portrayal and synthesis using deep learning techniques, human animation in games and simulations, including intangible cultural heritage, and involve motion capture, inverse kinematics, and applications of conformal geometric algebra in graphics.
